I tried following the format in the "What We Need for a Profile Evaluation" post the best I could under 500words
Work Experience: I would have 4 years of experience at time of matriculation all at the same job. Currently I am Sr. Business Analyst with a Fortune 100 company (Pharma). We have SAP-like product which is targeted for clincial, industrial, and forensic laboratories. My work has primarily dealt with the forensic aspect. Since we are working with labs, a working knowledge of science and lab processes is necessary. I have learned to program and I have done so, but much of my responsibilities involve meeting with a client, defining work processes, and identifying inefficiencies and developing models to address and improve on their processes. Similar to a business analyst in an IT position. I am working on the largest forensic contract in the country currently and after 2 years of working was promoted to Sr. position on the project. I can provide more details, if I wasn't clear
In College: I worked in a lab for a summer and had a position with a biotech investment firm for a semester where I assessed the viability of potential investments.
GMAT: 750 (49Q, 42V)
Undergrad Experience: Johns Hopkins University 3.68 B.A Biology (First Major) Public Health (Second Major) Minor in Entrepreneurship and Management (I have taken 4-6 econ and business classes)
Extracurriculars:
In College: Johns Hopkins Tutorial Project (Tutor), AKPsi Professional Business Fraternity (Interchapter Liason, VP Marketing)
Circle K (Marketing Chair, Social Chair)
After College: Provided english tutoring to recent immigrants, Local Soup Kitchen often on weekends.
Target Programs: FT at Sloan, Wharton, Tuck, Haas, Booth, Kellogg, Stern, HBS
Plan to apply: R1 2013-2014
Post MBA Goal: Management consulting/Finance <- These are two fields I am very interested in but not sure what experience requirements necessarily are for the latter.
Uniqueness Coming from a science background, I never did anything remotely IT related in my undergrad, but was able to learn, adapt and excel in my position. Mostley through my work and through my personal time I've well-traveled, having been to many states and several countries.
Based on looking at websites and admissions criteria, I think GPA and GMAT wise I am okay. Work experience wise, I have done well at my job and will have a letter to attest to that, however my company was not Bain, JP Morgan, etc. Also I am also concerned that science-related IT isn't necessarily Investment Banking, Managment Consulting or other fields that . My volunteering could be stronger. I am only interested in top programs as these are the only programs would financially make sense given the opportunity cost of 2 years lost income. I am an Indian male born in the United States, I am not sure if thats worth mentioning. Do I have a good chance at these programs?
Thanks for your time!
