Kellog (Part-Time) vs. GTown (Full-Time) FINAL DECISION DUE FRIDAY

$

Hi All!

First, thanks for all the help that you have given me throughout this journey.

Background:
Age: 31
Industry: Currently in Non-profit, hoping to pivot into consulting
Location: Chicago, ultimate goal to settle in Midwest

I was admitted into both Kellogg's part-time program and into McDonough's full-time program. I was also waitlisted at a couple of other schools (like UCLA) am not interested in waiting to hear back.

Kellogg needs a final answer by 3/29 (Friday). Neither school is presently offering money (Kellogg might in the future - those decisions have not yet been released).

My question: Is it ultimately better to go to part-time to the M7 school (Kellogg does not indicate full-time and part-time students in recruiting, degrees conferred, etc) or to go full-time to the Top 25?

If you can explain why, I would really appreciate - it would also help me explain to my husband. I really appreciate your help!

Aiming For 390 - 670 Improvement On GMAT In Two Months

$

I started studying last year November, I paid for a 60 min, 5 sessions with a tutor, don't think that helped much. My tutor style was based on solving questions with me and asking questions on what I need him to focus on so I don't think his effort helped a great deal.

I believe that I need to strengthen my fundamental knowledge in Math and English, then get use to GMAT question trends and style. My score was very poor despite my marathon practice tests but I think I have learned how to build stamina. I need to improve my score ahead of a re-take of the exam on June 1st (About two months). Although I wasnt consistent on my study habit, I skipped one or two days here and there, took a necessary vacation few days before the exam day. However, I am left with no choice so I need to jump start my preparation and bring this thing home by June 1st.

I need help from folks with similar issue from the past. I'd appreciate advice on how you were able to achieve your goal. I need help on study materials that I should consider in learning Math and English (What topics should I focus on for both) fundamental in preparation for the GMAT exam. What study plan should I adopt and how would you suggest I dedicate some time to GMAT daily?

Thank you for your time and advice in advance.

If x is an integer divisble by 15 but not divisble by 20, then x cannot be divisble by which of the following?

A - 6
B - 10
C - 12
D - 30
E - 150

I can understand that x is an integer which is divisible by 15, means it is one of the multiples of 15 i.e. 15,30,45 etc. Secondly, since x is divisble by 15, it should be divisble by factors of 15 as well i.e. 3 & 5 ... even then I am unable to solve ... please help

PythaGURUS MBA Consulting: Scholarships for Top MBA Applicants

Dear Applicants,

A lot of you ask me about scholarships and financial aid. I wanted to address your queries here, and show the way forward.

Working with the global MBA community for past 11 years, I witnessed the progressive thinking these top programs create to encourage a sense of great diversity in their classes. A lot of Indian applicants were able to afford MBA programs worth 1 to 1.5 crores and did not have to pay anything more than the plane ticket and the living expenditure.

An Indian female applicant named Salika gathered 3.17 crores of scholarships from 4 top tier US MBA Programs, and had to take a tough call of picking one over the other. Another applicant named Vipasha had 100% tuition from one of the Top 10 US MBA programs, and her scholarship was worth more than 1.5 Crores. There are many more examples of Indians getting into top US MBA Programs with scholarships ranging between 40 lakhs to 2 crores. They could pursue an MBA from a Top global school at a price equivalent to or cheaper than the cost of doing MBA from India.

How can an Indian applicant pursue MBA from a top international b-school at a price cheaper than that in India? What are some of the things these applicants can do to maximise their chances of getting funding for their education?

a.Focus on employability: While writing stories for these business schools, you should articulate the reasons for picking that particular program, and help the school see that you have done your groundwork. All of these programs are interested in finding out Why are they your first choice? and you got to start your research ahead of time. You should also clearly assess what are your current handicaps, and what aspects of the program will help you remove your handicaps. Employability is a very important criterion for these programs not only for an admit but for scholarship too. Your only chance to prove that you will not be a liability on them, and will find your way out is through the employability essays. Focus on clear gaps, and the very clear path you will choose after you graduate.

b.Finding the right match: Different schools have different criterion for picking up candidates while creating the desired mix of classrooms. Some programs have more international and diverse group than the others and will be more keen on rewarding scholarships to ease the financial burden of these applicants. Also, some programs also

c.Networking your way in: IITs or IIMs never asked us Why do you want to join IIT Delhi or IIM A? and we never got trained in communication. However, international programs have a very different mindset. The goal is that networking exercise is to REALLY REALLY FIND OUT what that school is meant for you. Your goal is not to tell them why they are good. The goal is to tell them WHY THEY ARE MEANT FOR YOU? And this time and stamina. Also, some schools do not have a WHY THIS SCHOOL? essay question. So, you can prioritise the networking activities accordingly. You should also plan the networking exercise based on the Essay topics. Duke Fuqua has a very strong contribution requirement- and that is a part of the School DNA. Your answer should not be generic. Duke is also known to emphasise a lot LOT on Why DUKE in the interviews, and they are not looking or you telling them things that they already know about them from the website. Your goal is not NOT to describe their school to them. I know I am harping a lot on the networking activity as it will be a surprise for a lot of you, and that is why I also get you started on this right in the first week. Do spend a lot of time on this.

d.Expression on the essays: This candidate will have a very candid expression on the essays. Remember: They are not driven by heavy-weight vocabulary on your essays. It is more about storytelling and expressing your life. It is more about Why did you do whatever you did?. It is about What matters most to you?. You will also have a very effective letter of recommendations. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT WRITE YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS YOURSELF. Have your bosses write those for you. Take this SERIOUSLY.

Stern (full-ride) vs Kellogg, which one is better for finance?

Hi guys, I am thrilled to be in this dilemma, and would love to hear your opinions - which one is a better option for finance role, e.g. IB?

Background:
-International student from Asia
-Pre-MBA: small PE shop, no U.S. work experience.
-Post-MBA: finance role in the U.S., and may be the best possible role would be IB?
-Would love to pursue a career in Canada if H1B policies tighten.

Stern
Pros:
-Full tuition, which means only $75K out of pocket for two years, a lot easier life style post-MBA
-Stern is a IB focused school, according to the CMC, there's 26.2% placements to IB
-Closest distance to those banks (probably more demanding in terms of networking?)
Cons:
-Lower ranked, although still Top 15, less prestigious internationally
-0.9% VC placements, I guess is would be impossible for me

Kellogg
Pros:
-M7, highly regarded internationally even back to Asia
-According to CMC report, 3.6% PE placement, seems that it leaves one more door open, although it would be highly uncertain in U.S.
-Hevanston is ideal location to live given one-hour train to Chicago
-Reputable party school (who could say no to that?)
-Bidding system for interviews (It seems that Kellogg is powerful during corporate recruiting)
Cons:
-Kellogg is consulting heavy school, with 30% Consulting, and 28% Tech, there is only 13.7% financial services with IB 5.7% (less competitive?)
-According to both schools websites, it would be $120K ~ $150K more out of pocket
