Hello,
I was wondering if I could get some perspective on if MBA would be an ideal choice for my career.
After finishing my PhD from U of Washington in Mechanical Engineering, I interned at Tesla for about 5 months, followed by Post Doc (Current) at University in Iowa, I interviewed with BCG for a consultant role with advanced professional degree (APD). Clearly my fundamentals for consulting were not as astute as required by BCG so I could not even get past the first round of the interviews.
My motivation for MBA came from the two amazing people who I interviewed with at BCG. I would ultimately want to establish myself as a generalist first and then a specialist (possibly an MD or partner) in the field of metals, mining and digital manufacturing.
My shortcomings are obvious. I am already in in my mid 30s and do not have enough corporate experience. Considering the choices of B-Schools and the age group of class that enters every academic year, I am bit concerned whether it would be a good idea to pursue MBA.
My questions are:
1) Would it be recommended to pursue MBA considering my background and potential career choices?
2) What schools should I be targeting with my background?
3) how difficult it is to get into a top MBA (such as MIT Sloan) with my background?
Thank you for your time and considerations.
