Hi,
I will be doing Teach For America for the next two years teaching high school math. After TFA, I'm interested in pursuing a PhD in marketing. I would love to get some tips.
My background:
BA in economics (GPA 3.4/4.0) from one of the top 5 state schools in the US
2 years of work experience in accounting
I will be getting a master's in education during my time as a teacher. I'm hoping to do my research and thesis on consumer behavior in private education market to help with my PhD admissions. I will be working hard to get a 750+ on the GMAT before I start applying.
I want to get a PhD to do research on how brand management affect consumer behavior in the realm of private education particularly in China and Korea where each household's spending on private education exceeds any other spending. My research interest will likely mature more but this is the general idea I have right now.
1. With my lack of research experience, will I need to strengthen my research skills? If so, what are your suggestions?
2. Would it be safer for me to apply for a MA in marketing rather than PhD? I'm not sure with my kind of background, how likely I will make it to top PhD programs in marketing (CB).
3. Any recommendations on what I can do to better my chance of admission?
Thank you!
