Hello fellow GMAT club members,
Today I took the GMAT for the first time. As stated in the Title, I got a 480. This came as a pretty big surprise for me as I felt ok while doing the test (I didn't even run out of time in any of the sections).
I have been studying for the past 2 months. I completed the Kaplan GMAT Premier book, as well as the 5 accompanying CAT tests. I was scoring in the mid-600's in those Kaplan CAT's, so I figured I could at least manage a 600 on my first attempt.
Besides that, I have been doing questions from the OG (although I admit I did not finish the entire 13th edition OG). Finally, I purchased some MGMAT CAT's but I have not used the actual Manhattan Guides. I scored at around 590 in those CAT's.
The day before the test, I took a GMATPrep test and got a 560.
I still don't understand what happened during the actual test. If it was my nerves, I certainly did not feel them. If anything, I was feeling a little uneasy at the end of the Verbal section but it was only because I wanted to be done already. I should say I'm surprised at how poorly I did in Verbal... I was scoring quite high in the Verbal section in those practice CAT's.
Right now, I need to make a new plan. It is obvious I won't be able to apply in Round 1 this year. I have no idea if I can even make it to Round 2 applications. Heck, I don't know if I'll even be able to apply to schools this year![:(]( "Sad")
My plan right now was along the lines of doing the OG 13th edition SERIOUSLY. As in, do every single problem, keep an error log, and simply KNOW how to do every single problem in that book. Besides that, I want to use the sources in this forum more. I have seen some amazing links from users like Bunuel (if you ever read this, I'm a huge fan of your explanations... they always make sense to me). For Quant, I feel like I have a good grasp of the concepts tested but I mess up stupid things like misunderstanding the wording in the question, forgetting a scenario to test in DS, not going back and seeing if I'm actually answering what's being asked. Whenever I check what I got wrong, 95% of the time my "approach" to the question was correct (which leads me to think I identify what concepts are being asked), but I mess up in things like those mentioned above... and even when doing simple arithmetic.
Any other suggestions on how to study at this time? Should I get any additional materials, or do you think these are fine? And finally... when should I re-take this test? I still feel I have some fight in me and I don't want to give up just yet. Please give me some direction.
