Active duty Naval Officer debating whether to stay in the Navy or get out after my initial service commitment.
Undergrad: US Naval Academy
Degree: BS Computer Science and IT (dual major)
GPA: 3.6
Class Rank: Top 20%
Job Experience: 2 years Surface Warfare Officer, 3 years Information Professional Officer
If I got out of the Navy at the end of my 5-year obligation, I could attend UW-Madison with 100% tuition remission using the Wisconsin GI Bill (would not qualify for Post 9/11 GI Bill).
Would attempting to go to a top 5 school and incurring $100k debt be worth it compared to UW-Madison with no debt? From what I've read, it seems like I'd have at least a decent chance if getting into a top program if I scored well on the GMAT as service academy grads are supposedly well received. I intend to stay in Wisconsin for a career when I am complete, so it makes me think that spending $100k for a brand name won't be as important as if I was wanting to move to the east coast or even Chicago.
Thoughts?
