Hello everyone!
First off, I'd like to say that I am new to the forums but I have been using GMAT Club as a research tool ever since I decided to pursue my MBA. Second, I am active-duty military living in Boston and I have been accepted to three great part-time/evening MBA Programs: Boston University (Questrom), Boston College (Carroll), and Northeastern University (D'Amore-McKim). I have about a week to decide which school to go to.
I live in Cambridge, so BU and NU are definitely closer to my home than BC. Furthermore, BC does not give scholarships to its part-time applicants so I would be paying about 73K out of pocket after some military aid and waived credits (together about 14K off the original 87K tuition).
I have, however, received 10K from Boston University. After credits waivers and aid given by the military, I can receive BU's 95K education for 71K.
Northeastern University's program offered me an even better scholarship of $20K and will match the tuition's assistance given by the military. Therefore, I would be able to receive Northeastern's 86K education for 43K.
Cost aside, I have done my research and know that BU and BC are ranked higher than NU. According to US News, BU is ranked 43, BC is ranked 45, and NU is ranked 52 for full time programs. For part time programs, BU is ranked 35, BC is ranked 37, and NU is ranked 109.
Ranking aside, the average salary for a BC grad is $95K, for a BU grad is $99K, and for a NU grad is $76K.
I hate to make my decision based on these factors alone so I would like to get input from my fellow GMAT Club members. How much does rank really matter? If I separate from the military, I wish to pursue international business and become an Ex-Pat working for US companies in Korea and Japan some day (I am fluent in Korean and Japanese). Furthermore, I am currently a project manager for the military and an Air Force Academy Graduate. Will my language skills and military experience be enough or will the name brand of the school I get my MBA from matter a great deal? ~27K is a lot of money and I'm not sure if I can justify going to BU over Northeastern for that much money. However, I do realize that an MBA is an investment and I wish to go to the school that will give me the biggest return on investment. I would love to hear everyone's opinion. Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to your responses.
