Hey folks, lately I have been thinking about what an MBA candidate can do in the months leading to their MBA. This can be a highly personal choice but I thought listing down a few possibilities could help everyone know about different options available. Please feel free to add your thoughts in comments and together we can make this a more comprehensive list as we go on!
So there you go! Let me know what you guys think!
- 1. Pre-MBA internship preferably in the industry, function or geography that you want to transition in post MBA
2. Beginner courses in technical subjects/skills you may not be comfortable in such as accountancy, financial modelling, data analysis etc
3. Additional language skills especially if you are moving into a country which has a different dominant language
4. Travel with friends and family or spend time with them doing activities you enjoy
5. Network! Network! Network!
6. Pick up/adopt in your daily routine skills that make you mentally and physically healthy, could be yoga, meditation, a sport etc.
7. MBA Reading list with a focus on the industry you want to transition in
8. Basic life skills such as cooking, doing your own laundry etc. (Hopefully most have already got these in control)
9. Quit your job at least two months before starting school if possible. There are so many MBA students who regret not having taken enough breathing time between two rigorous periods in their lives
10. Create a list of memorable work moments before you forget it all in the excitement of the program
